Would you like to be part of my experiment?
If you’re getting this email, I consider you to be the highest tier of friend: a weird friend. Someone who is curious about the world and not afraid to follow their own path.
I was thinking lately about how socializing in my life has changed a lot over the years. I feel less pressure to do things just in order to not be alone. But there is a type of socializing I really enjoy, that I want to foster. It’s a slower, more thoughtful interaction with people I find interesting. They often cause me to think differently about the world. They’re weird.
So I started thinking about how I can get more of that. And my experiment (which you are now a part of) is to write about things that I’m thinking about, share them, and encourage you to do the same.
I think I am craving some form of connection that is more asynchronous. That gives time for reflection, and for ideas that evolve over time.
Here are some things I think about and feel like writing about:
Meditation
Cheese
Non-Duality
Philosophy (some buddhism, some stoicism but not the depressing kind)
Art
Things that feel genuine
Things that make my heart feel stuff
What I’d like to get out of it:
encourage myself to write more and learn by writing
encourage you to submit your writing or art
learn from you and your replies
meet more weird friends
have you meet my other weird friends
have interesting asynchronous conversations with people I like
What I think it could be long term:
a way to encourage people to follow their creative pursuits
an organization that organizes in person events to share and encourage creative projects
an organization that funds creative projects (I want you to quit your job and make art)
I feel a bit weird writing this because it’s hard to share ideas that aren’t fully formed. But I am going to do it anyway and hope you will join me.
Thanks for being a weird friend.
